Callum's Revenge Against Celeste
The Secret VampireCallum's revenge against Celeste is a prolonged retaliation born of grief and a false accusation: after finding Carmilla dead, he mistakes Celeste for her killer and turns his strength against the woman he had promised to protect. The attacks expose how Samara's manipulation transforms mourning into violence, while the later revelation of the truth makes Callum confront both Celeste's innocence and his own cruelty.
The Misattribution of Carmilla's Death
Carmilla dies in the forest after Susie, newly transformed and under the influence of Samara's plan, bites her. Celeste reaches Carmilla and tries to help, but cannot prevent her death. Before dying, Carmilla asks Celeste to take care of Callum and whispers something to her. When Callum arrives, he sees his mother's body and grieves; then a wooden stake falls from Celeste's bag. He interprets that detail as proof that Celeste killed Carmilla. Celeste says she knows who the real killer is, but Callum refuses to hear her explanation, throws her against a tree with his supernatural strength, and leaves her unconscious. He carries Carmilla's body back to the castle, while Samara celebrates: the scene confirms that Callum's hatred is the result she intended.
Samara's success depends on the gap between what Callum witnesses and what he understands. Celeste is present at the death and carries a stake, but neither fact establishes that she caused it; her attempt to identify the true culprit is cut off by Callum's grief and rage. The accusation immediately reverses their relationship: the person Callum had once vowed to protect becomes, in his eyes, the enemy responsible for his mother's death. His retaliation grows from that mistaken certainty rather than from any evidence that Celeste has harmed Carmilla.
The Retaliation Escalates
After Celeste wakes in the hospital, she tells Susie that Callum has hurt her and blames her for Carmilla’s death. Susie expresses remorse for what she has done, but the sisters’ exchange does not repair their relationship: Susie rejects Celeste’s account, embraces her darker vampire side, and leaves vowing to find Brianna’s killer. Elsewhere, Callum buries himself in the same accusation, promising himself that he will make Celeste pay. His grief has become a programme of retaliation, directed at the person he once promised to protect.
That night, Callum enters Celeste’s hospital room and grabs her by the throat. She wakes to his red eyes and struggles to breathe as he threatens to make her feel death. Celeste manages to hit the emergency button, forcing him to leave before the nurse arrives. The attack makes the mistaken accusation bodily and immediate: Callum is no longer merely refusing to hear Celeste’s explanation but attempting to kill her. Afterward, she catches her breath, asks for water, and cries because she believes Callum hates her.
Callum’s hostility continues after Celeste is discharged. At college, he gives her cold looks; when Damien draws her aside and she describes her family’s losses and her father’s alcoholism and abuse, she cannot bring herself to finish what she was going to say about Callum. Damien recognizes her distress, but Callum later turns a supposed training session on the sports field into another assault. Using his vampire strength, he kicks the ball at Celeste until she falls, then threatens her while she lies on the ground. She has only just left the hospital, and Damien points out that she should be resting. Callum’s repeated violence therefore extends beyond the initial confrontation in the forest: it follows Celeste into places where she should be safe and compounds the danger she already faces at home.
The retaliation is also sustained by a false account of what happened. Callum tells himself that Celeste murdered his mother, while Samara exploits his bereavement and keeps the truth concealed. When Damien suggests showing Callum a clip, he initially holds back; later, once Callum is sober, he shows him footage in which Susie confesses. Callum recognizes that Celeste was innocent and remembers the hospital and field attacks. Overwhelmed by what he has done, he says he cannot face her. The recording turns suspicion into knowledge, but it does not undo the injuries or restore the trust his revenge has destroyed.
From Retaliation to Recognition
The confession footage does not immediately bring Callum back to Celeste. Ashamed of what he remembers doing, he tells Damien he cannot face her. But when he feels Celeste’s pain, the threat to her breaks through his grief: he realizes she has been taken and hurt. At first he still does not know who is responsible. At the castle, he confronts Vlad, who suggests killing Celeste if Callum cannot avenge Carmilla. Callum’s answer is now unequivocal: Celeste did not murder his mother. The accusation that had driven his attacks gives way to a determination to protect her, even as the danger around her grows.
That change does not make Callum’s instinct for violence disappear. Searching for Celeste, he learns from Elijah that Celeste is missing and hears her father call her a murderer. Callum beats Elijah until Damien stops him and calls for an ambulance. His outrage is directed against the contempt and blame Celeste faces, but his response repeats the physical force he had used against her. Damien makes him confront the consequence: Celeste has already lost family, and killing her father would deepen that loss. Callum leaves with a possessive promise that, once they find her, she will stay with him. The statement blends care with control, showing that remorse has redirected his aggression without yet fully repairing the damage it caused.
Callum’s reversal unfolds alongside Samara’s effort to keep the truth buried and turn grief against Celeste again. She disguises herself as Carmilla, traps Vlad with a silver chain, and uses the false appearance of his dead wife to command him to avenge her by killing Celeste. Callum and Damien search for the captive while Vlad, under the spell, pursues the same target. The parallel sharpens the distinction between Callum’s earlier revenge and his changed purpose: he had acted on a false reading of Carmilla’s death, but now recognizes Celeste’s innocence and moves to protect her from a threat that deliberately reproduces his own former accusation.
Exposure, Consequence, and Repair
While Callum and Damien search for Celeste, his earlier acts of retaliation remain part of the danger she faces: Samara has abducted her and keeps her bound in a basement, explaining that her capture is connected to Callum. Gabriel brings Celeste a peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwich and juice, but his first attempt to free her fails when Samara catches them and uses a spell to weaken them. Callum feels Celeste’s pain and understands that someone is hurting her; at the castle, he rejects Vlad’s renewed demand for vengeance and insists that Celeste did not murder Carmilla. His certainty now runs against the very accusation that once licensed his attacks.
Celeste’s recovery of the truth comes through a dream in which Carmilla tells her she is special, has a gift, and is Callum’s soulmate. The dream does not erase the violence between them, but it places Celeste’s power and her bond with Callum within the conflict that Samara has engineered. When Celeste later confronts Samara, she uses that power to open a portal showing the past. Samara’s own confession establishes that she killed both Carmilla and Celeste’s mother for power, and that she pretended to be Hannah to manipulate Damien’s feelings and separate Celeste and Callum. The false charge that drove Callum’s revenge is thus answered not by his grief or suspicion, but by a disclosure that identifies the killer and exposes the larger scheme.
Celeste traps Samara in a magical hourglass, but the effort leaves her weak and collapsing. Callum carries her inside, and takes her hand and kisses it as she recovers. Their movement toward reconciliation culminates days later on the college sports field, where Callum proposes marriage. The ending does not make his earlier violence disappear: he had injured and threatened Celeste while she was already vulnerable, and recognition came only after she had endured those attacks. Instead, the proposal marks a renewed relationship after the truth has been exposed, placing the consequences of Callum’s mistaken revenge beside his attempt to make a future with the person he had wrongly punished.
